Many organizations offer programs aimed at assisting families with the financial hardship associated with treatment for childhood cancer. 

HOUSING

Help you pay your rent

Circle of Care - Provides financial assistance to families of patients up to age 26, living in or being treated at a hospital in Connecticut.

Friends of Karen - Provides financial assistance within Fairfield, Middlesex, and New Haven counties, for patients up to age 22.

Tommy Fund - Offers direct payment of mortgage/rental assistance for patients & their families undergoing cancer treatment at the Tommy Fund Pediatric Hematology & Oncology Center, Smilow Cancer Hospital Yale New Haven and its affiliates. 

Umbrella Club - We strive to find families and children in need who have been passed over by other more traditional organizations. We know what a contribution can mean in changing the lives of others.

Friends of Karen - Provides financial assistance within Fairfield, Middlesex, and New Haven counties, for patients up to age 21.

Tommy Fund - Offers direct payment of mortgage/rental assistance for patients & their families undergoing cancer treatment at the Tommy Fund Pediatric Hematology & Oncology Center, Smilow Cancer Hospital Yale New Haven and its affiliates. 

Leukemia & Lymphoma Society - Offers The Patient Aid Fund for blood cancer patients of all ages, and the Urgent Need, Pediatric, Adolescent, and Young Adult Fund for blood cancer patients up to 39 years old. 

Help you pay for homeowners insurance

Circle of Care - Provides financial assistance to families of patients up to age 26, living in or being treated at a hospital in Connecticut

Provide temporary housing near Yale New Haven Hospital

Ronald McDonald House of Connecticut - We offer families of sick or injured children a place to call home while their child is being treated at local medical facilities. Families must be referred by their social worker or another medical professional.

Circle of Care - Provides financial assistance for lodging during hospital stay, to families of patients up to age 26, living in or being treated at a hospital in Connecticut.

Friends of Karen - Provides financial assistance within Fairfield, Middlesex, and New Haven counties, for patients up to age 21.

Leukemia & Lymphoma Society - Offers the Susan Lang Pay-It-Forward Patient Travel Assistance Program for the cost of treatment-related lodging expenses for blood cancer patients and caregivers.

Circle of Care - Provides financial assistance to families of patients up to age 26, living in or being treated at a hospital in Connecticut.

Friends of Karen - Provides financial assistance within Fairfield, Middlesex, and New Haven counties, for patients up to age 21.

Tommy Fund - Offers direct payment of utility assistance for patients & their families undergoing cancer treatment at the Tommy Fund Pediatric Hematology & Oncology Center, Smilow Cancer Hospital Yale New Haven and its affiliates.  

Provide referrals to other organizations who can provide financial help

Connecticut Children's Hospital - The Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders has a dedicated Resource Specialist who is available to meet with patient families to assess for needs and provide resources/referrals to both local and national organizations.

 

MEDICAL

Help you pay for medical costs

Friends of Karen - Provides financial assistance within Fairfield, Middlesex, and New Haven counties, for patients up to age 21.

Tommy Fund - Offers financial assistance for both current patients and survivors of the Tommy Fund Pediatric Hematology & Oncology Center and its HEROS clinic in the area of medical expenses not covered by insurance, as well as direct payment of patient exploratory medical devices/equipment. 

Umbrella Club - The members of The Umbrella Club understand that a quiet helping hand can make a life changing difference for those in need.

Yale New Haven Hospital - Offers the Medication Assistance Program to provide financial assistance and support for patients unable to afford their life-saving medication. 

Help you pay for medical co-pays

Friends of Karen - Provides financial assistance within Fairfield, Middlesex, and New Haven counties, for patients up to age 21.

Leukemia & Lymphoma Society - Offers the Co-Pay Assistance Program to remove barriers that blood cancer patients face in accessing care. 

Help you pay for co-insurance

Assist with insurance billing

Circle of Care - Provides transportation assistance to families of patients up to age 26, living in or being treated at a hospital in Connecticut.

Friends of Karen - Provides financial assistance within Fairfield, Middlesex, and New Haven counties, for patients up to age 21.

Leukemia & Lymphoma Society - Offers the Susan Lang Pay-It-Forward Patient Travel Assistance Program for the cost of treatment-related travel expenses for blood cancer patients and caregivers including: ground transportation; tolls; gas; parking; car rental; car maintenance, repairs and parts; air transportation; baggage fees; and ambulance services.

Tommy Fund - Reviews specific requests for transportation expenses when needing to travel to hospitals for Clinical Trials not being offered at the Tommy Fund Pediatric Hematology & Oncology Center, Smilow Cancer Hospital Yale New Haven and its affiliates for its current patients or those immediately ending treatment at the Tommy Fund center due to the inability for further care offered.
