Treatment Centers
Connecticut has two premiere children's hospitals. The diagnosis and management of cancer is a complex process. It relies on the knowledge, skills and experience of a multidisciplinary team to provide pediatric cancer patients with optimal care. A cancer care team generally includes specialists from many areas, including physicians such as medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, surgical oncologists, pathologists, and other health care professionals such as nurses, physical therapists and social workers.

Hematology and oncology specialty care is provided at Connecticut Children's Medical Center by a multidisciplinary team of physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses and support staff. Their board-certified physicians are dedicated to providing comprehensive care to children with cancer and blood disorders, along with coordinated patient and family support.
Connecticut Children’s Cancer Supportive Care Program is dedicated to improving the physical, emotional, cognitive, and social health of children with cancer and blood disorders through family-centered care, research, education, and advocacy. -
Dedicated pediatric hematologists and oncologists provide care for children with all forms of cancer and blood diseases, including leukemia, malignant tumors and lymphomas, as well as sickle cell disease, hemophilia, coagulation abnormalities and platelet disorders. Their participation in the Children's Oncology Group studies makes it possible to provide the most current and advanced treatment regimens to children with any form of cancer, common or rare. Their multidisciplinary team of physicians in pediatrics, laboratory medicine, surgery, neurosurgery, orthopedics, pathology, therapeutic radiology and diagnostic radiology work together on a case-by-case basis to treat each child.
Research Support
In addition to the clinical research being done at the hospitals, there are local organizations working to improve funding for pediatric cancer research and cures.

LLS identifies and funds the most promising blood cancer research projects and forges partnerships with academic institutions, biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies to accelerate the development of new therapies.

The Tommy Fund is raising funds for a new Palliative Care program at The Tommy Fund Pediatric Hematology Oncology Center at Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale-New Haven.
